Jamie Carragher: 'Liverpool would shake on top-four finish now'

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher thinks that the champions would happily accept a top-four finish now after their disappointing 2020-21 Premier League campaign.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that the Reds would willingly accept a top-four finish after their troubled 2020-21 campaign.

The reigning champions - afflicted with numerous injuries during the season - are currently seven points adrift of leaders Manchester City, whom they face in Sunday's crunch match.

Liverpool's goal drought at Anfield is becoming a real point of concern for Jurgen Klopp, and Carragher thinks that the injury-hit Reds would happily shake on a spot in the Champions League places.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Carragher said: "Andy Robertson has come out and said Liverpool aren't in the title race, and I think that is the right way to look at it at the moment.

"Liverpool have to be looking at the top four positions, and to say the obvious, take each game as it comes because the form is so down.

"There are so many changes to the team that you are never quite sure what it's going to be. Alisson was out at the last minute against Brighton and Liverpool are still waiting for players to come back.

"So I think from now, if you were to offer Liverpool a top-four finish they would take that and shake on it."

Fourth-placed Liverpool would fall 10 points behind Man City should they lose to Pep Guardiola's men on Sunday, and the Citizens also have a game in hand over their title rivals.
