Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is reportedly considering a switch to a 3-5-2 in the hope of recording an emphatic victory over Liverpool on Sunday.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is reportedly planning to shake up his tactics for Sunday's behemoth of a showdown with Liverpool at Anfield.

The Citizens are seemingly unstoppable at the moment and have won their last 13 matches in all competitions - a run of form which has seen them return to the top of the Premier League table over arch-rivals Manchester United.

Guardiola has rarely shifted away from his favoured 4-3-3 system amid his side's remarkable winning run, but the Spaniard is supposedly considering a different approach against a below-par and injury-plagued Liverpool outfit.

According to The Mirror, the City boss is keen a lay down a marker with an emphatic victory against the champions, so he is considering a switch to a 3-5-2 formation with more emphasis on attack.

Such a system would see Ruben Dias, John Stones and Aymeric Laporte all line up in the heart of defence, while the versatile Joao Cancelo - a standout performer this season - would have more freedom to attack a ravaged Liverpool backline.

Liverpool are afflicted with numerous absentees in all thirds of the pitch at the moment, and a win for City would see them open up a 10-point gap over the current holders with a game in hand.
