Gary Neville: 'Manchester United right to pick Angel di Maria over Alexis Sanchez'

Gary Neville believes that Manchester United were right to sign Angel di Maria over Alexis Sanchez.

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville believes that manager Louis van Gaal made the right call to sign Angel di Maria instead of Alexis Sanchez.

Di Maria impressed at Old Trafford by scoring three goals and making six assists in his first 10 matches after joining the club for a British record £59.7m fee from Real Madrid last summer.

However, since suffering a hamstring injury in December, the Argentina international has struggled to maintain his form.

In contrast, Sanchez has scored 18 goals in 35 appearances following his move to Arsenal from Barcelona last year.

"Obviously Sanchez has had a far bigger impact and a better season than Di Maria," Neville told talkSPORT. "But if you would have asked me at the start of the season, 'Sanchez or Di Maria?', I would have said Di Maria."

Fourth-placed United are one point behind Arsenal, who reside third in the Premier League.
