David Beckham: "We will fund the stadium ourselves"

David Beckham says that his group will fund the building of his Miami club's new stadium.

David Beckham has confirmed that no public money will be used to fund his Miami club's new stadium.

The former England captain revealed this afternoon that he had purchased a franchise, but as yet there is no facility for the team to call their home ground.

However, despite speculation to the contrary, the 38-year-old has insisted that there will be no cost to the taxpayer.

"We will fund the stadium ourselves, we don't want public funding. We can fund the stadium ourselves," he told reporters. "We want to create a stadium, a soccer club that is the people's soccer club. I have worked with some of the biggest clubs and greatest players and this is a dream."

It is thought that the club will compete from 2017 onwards.
