Grassroots football given funding boost

The FA confirms that it will invest £102m into grassroots football as part of a new initiative involving the Premier League and the government.

The Football Association has confirmed that it will invest £102m into grassroots football as part of a new initiative involving the Premier League and the government.

The funding, which starts in January 2014, will be delivered by the Football Foundation over a period of three years.

The scheme is intended to provide new "state-of-the-art" facilities across England, including deprived areas.

Minister for Sport and Equalities Helen Grant told the FA's official website: "This partnership between the Premier League, the FA, Sport England and government shows what can be achieved when the public and private sectors work together to help strengthen our national game at the grassroots.

"The investment of £102m into facilities, delivered by the Football Foundation, will encourage many people to get into sport in some of the most deprived areas of the country. Sport has a unique power to change lives for the better and this will make a positive impact in many local communities."

The Football Foundation has provided over £400m worth of grants since being set up in 2000.
