Carlo Ancelotti backs Cristiano Ronaldo to out-score Lionel Messi

Former Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti believes that Cristiano Ronaldo will once again score more league goals than Barcelona's Lionel Messi this season.

Former Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has predicted that Los Blancos forward Cristiano Ronaldo will score more La Liga goals than Lionel Messi this season.

Ronaldo scooped the Pichichi award last season after netting 48 times in the league, five more than Messi managed in Spain's top flight.

Neither of the two top players in world football have scored in the league thus far this season, but Ancelotti believes that it is only a matter of time before Ronaldo gets off the mark.

"It is a bit strange that neither Ronaldo, nor Messi has scored yet this season in La Liga," Marca quotes Ancelotti as saying.

"But I do not have any doubts about Cristiano. I know him very well and I am willing to bet that he will win the Pichichi trophy again this season. When I was in charge last season, he scored 61 goals in all competitions. He really was incredible."

Since joining Real Madrid from Manchester United in 2009, Ronaldo has scored 313 goals in 302 games for the Spanish club, including 225 in La Liga.
