Steve Bruce admits that he was "disappointed" to miss out on the Wolverhampton Wanderers manager's job.

Steve Bruce has admitted that he was "disappointed" to miss out on becoming the next manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The former Sunderland boss was called back to Molineux for a second interview with owner Steve Morgan and chief executive Jez Moxey last month.

However, the job was eventually given to sacked Mick McCarthy's assistant Terry Connor on an interim basis until the end of the season.

"At one stage I was close, but it wasn't to be. It's their prerogative," Bruce told BBC Sport.

"When I left the conversation on Thursday, by all intents and purposes, it was to have another conversation on the Friday.

"I said to my good lady I thought I was back to work. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. I'm disappointed."

Bruce was dismissed from the Stadium of Light earlier this season after two years in charge.
