Wenger: Players should be proud

Arsene Wenger believes that his players can take pride from their 3-0 win over AC Milan, despite it not being enough to keep them in the Champions League.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that his side should be proud of their performance in the Champions League tie with AC Milan.

The Gunners found themselves 4-0 down after the first leg in the San Siro, but came close to pulling off a miraculous comeback in the return game, eventually falling just short with a 3-0 win.

However, despite his side being dumped out of the competition, Wenger says that his players should take pride from the way they didn't give up.

"They can only be proud of their performance. I felt we were a bit short. We had no midfielders at all on the bench," said the veteran manager.

"We suffered a little bit when we got tired in the second half. We were a bit more fatigued. I'm sure we would have scored two or three more goals in the second half.

"But to put the performance in is fantastic spirit and restored some pride after our first tie. Unfortunately we go out."

Arsenal moved up to fourth in the Premier League with a late win over Liverpool last weekend, and will host Newcastle United next Monday.
