Arsene Wenger: 'We can overcome AS Monaco'

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes that his side can make history by overcoming their two-goal deficit against AS Monaco to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that his side are capable of making history by overcoming AS Monaco to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

The Gunners lost the first leg of their last-16 clash 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium three weeks ago.

Arsenal head to France for the return leg this evening, knowing that no side has ever progressed in the competition after losing the home leg by a two-goal deficit.

"The statistics are against us," Wenger told ESPN. "The result in the first leg is against us. We are conscious about that.

"But no matter how big the percentage is, we have to give absolutely everything to make the stats lie, that is our desire and belief that we can do it.

"We want to give everything to have the greatest performance on the pitch. If we did not believe we could do it, we would not be here."

Arsenal last qualified for the quarter-finals in 2010.
