Arsenal fans against new contract for manager Arsene Wenger

The Arsenal Supporters' Trust warns the club against offering manager Arsene Wenger a new contract due to his lack of spending in the summer transfer window.

The Arsenal Supporters' Trust has called on the club to refrain from giving manager Arsene Wenger a new contract.

The group have slammed the North London outfit for so far failing to land their big-name targets with around two weeks to go until the close of the summer transfer window.

The Gunners have been linked with the likes Gonzalo Higuain and Luiz Gustavo, who have both opted for moves to different clubs, while their pursuit of Liverpool striker Luis Suarez appears to have dwindled due to the Merseyside club's unwillingness to sell.

In a statement, AST said: "Chief executive Ivan Gazidis has spoken of the intent to offer Wenger a new contract. We believe this is inappropriate. The entire focus must be on using the remaining days of the transfer window to strengthen the team significantly.

"Ambitious football clubs invest the money they receive from their fans, and sometimes their owners, to make themselves stronger. Arsenal supporters pay some of the highest ticket prices in world football, providing the club with considerable financial resources, but the ambition and ability to use them appear to be missing."

The statement comes after the Gunners lost their opening Premier League clash 3-1 to Aston Villa on Saturday.
