Mathieu Flamini: 'Mesut Ozil the missing piece for Arsenal'

Mathieu Flamini says that Mesut Ozil is the player Arsenal have needed in order to end their trophy drought.

Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini believes that Mesut Ozil is the piece that the club have been missing in order to win trophies in recent times.

The Gunners have gone eight years without obtaining any silverware, but currently sit top of the Premier League and have made winning starts to both the Champions League and the Capital One Cup this season.

Both players were recruited over the summer, but Flamini thinks that Ozil is the man who can help Arsenal end their honours drought.

"Eight years without winning anything is not easy for anyone, for the fans, for the players, for the club or the coach, but the quality is here. Maybe it was missing just a few things," Flamini told The Mirror.

"This year it was important that nobody left and then we got new players with a lot of quality and what is most important is the team spirit.

"We knew Mesut was a big player – he proved it at Madrid. For us, it is a great boost because he is a great player and knows how to make the difference. He has great spirit, he is working hard for the team and can make the difference at any moment."

Arsenal face Swansea City in the Premier League on Saturday.
