Henrikh Mkhitaryan: 'Unai Emery must bring new tactical ideas'

Henrikh Mkhitaryan welcomes the arrival of Unai Emery at Arsenal and hopes that the Spaniard can bring some "new tactical ideas" with him.

Arsenal playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan has said that he hopes the arrival of Unai Emery will mean "new tactical ideas" for next season.

The Gunners ushered in a new era this week by replacing long-serving boss Arsene Wenger with former Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain chief Emery.

Mkhitaryan has welcomed the Spaniard's arrival at the Emirates Stadium, which he believes could help instil some freshness in the Arsenal dressing room on the back of a disappointing campaign last time out.

"I still haven't had an opportunity to meet him," the Daily Mail quotes him as saying. "We didn't have time to talk with each other. I hope he will bring new tactical ideas and spirit to Arsenal, and I hope he will succeed. I haven't talked to my teammates about him.

"I would like to meet him. Everyone at the club is a professional. Everyone knows what he should do and what he is expected to do. Not only the players, but the staff overall were sad. It's not that easy to handle the exit of a man who was managing the team for 22 years.

"You can't imagine how everyone was amazed with the atmosphere he had created. If he decided to stay for 10 more years, no one would have been against it.

"Our priority last season was qualification for Champions League, but unfortunately we didn't manage that. We wanted to do it and we fought for it, but everything can happen in football, so we should focus on next season and return to the Champions League in two years."

Mkhitaryan featured 17 times in all competitions for Arsenal in the second half of the 2017-18 season after joining from Manchester United.
