Arsene Wenger does not want to 'overplay' Aaron Ramsey

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says that he does not want to exhaust Aaron Ramsey after the midfielder scored a late winner against Marseille.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he does not want to 'overplay' Aaron Ramsey after the midfielder scored a late winner against Marseille in the Champions League.

The 20-year-old came off the bench to claim all three points for the Gunners at the Stade Velodrome, but Wenger does not want to exhaust the injury-prone Welshman.

"It was a great finish, you see Ramsey in front of goal and you know you have a good chance to score," he said. "He is a goalscorer.

"I do not want to overplay him. I have seen in my mind that he had been injured for a year - Wilshere played a lot last year [and is now injured]. I try to be a bit more cautious when I can."

The boss also revealed that the victory in France will help his side to regain their form after an indifferent start to the season.

"Yes it will help us but if you look back last five or six games you will see we only have one defeat," he added. "We are slowly getting there - that will help tonight."

Arsenal next host Stoke City in the Premier League on Sunday.
