Arsenal's Arsene Wenger: 'I understand Thomas Vermaelen's frustration'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that defender Thomas Vermaelen, who has been linked with a move away from the Emirates, needs to be patient.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has urged defender Thomas Vermaelen to be patient as he continues to fight for a place in the team.

The Belgian, who has become second fiddle to Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny, has suggested that he could leave the Emirates in January to seek first-team football.

Serie A side Inter Milan are the latest club to be linked with a move for the defender, who has been with the North London outfit since 2009.

"I can understand Vermaelen's frustration but his time will come and he behaves fantastically well," Wenger said in a press conference.

Vermaelen will come to the end of his current contract at the end of next season.
