Arsenal are reportedly ready to honour a clause in Emiliano Martinez's contract, which was included when the goalkeeper left Independiente for North London in 2010.

Arsenal have reportedly agreed to honour a clause which was included in Emiliano Martinez's contract in 2010.

Since officially linking up with the Gunners a year later, Martinez has spent much of his time on loan at other clubs, including five teams in the EFL.

However, Independiente, Martinez's former club, were alerted when Martinez was promoted to deputy to first-choice Bernd Leno, aware that the Argentine would likely be provided with games in cup competitions.

According to Doble Amarilla, Arsenal have argued that appearances in the Europa League should not count when it comes to a clause of €500,000 (£439,000) being activated upon 10 appearances being made in the first team.

There has allegedly been a change in stance, however, with the Premier League side having now indicated that they will pay the designated fee.

Martinez has made 11 outings for Arsenal this season, taking his overall tally to 20 senior appearances.
