Alex McLeish is disappointed with Aston Villa's 1-1 draw with Newcastle.

Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish was left disappointed after his side were held to a 1-1 draw by Newcastle.

Villa took the lead through Gabriel Agbonlahor in the first half at Villa Park, but Newcastle hit back through Leon Best to ensure they left the Midlands with a point.

McLeish was left to rue missed opportunities as Darren Bent failed to take advantage of an open goal from eight yards out.

"I'm disappointed. I thought we started brilliantly and we should have been 2-0 up through Bent's chance," McLeish told BBC Sport.

"But Petrov turned an ankle and Warnock injured his hip and we lost a bit of momentum and Newcastle took control. Warnock was patched up with a painkiller and he was like a man possessed in the second half.

"We were a bit deep at the goal and if we'd squeezed out we may have been able to play offside but we sat in our area and when you do that you've got win the ball."

Villa are next in league action when they travel to Queens Park Rangers on Sunday, September 25.
