Lionel Messi is reportedly set to perform a U-turn and reject Paris Saint-Germain's contract offer, as he considers his future.

Lionel Messi has reportedly turned down the opportunity to renew his Paris Saint-Germain contract.

The 35-year-old signed a two-year deal with PSG in 2021 after leaving Barcelona due to the club's financial situation.

Although he struggled to find his very best form in his first season in the French capital, he still managed to register 11 goals and 15 assists in 34 appearances.

However, he has gone from strength to strength during PSG's current campaign, racking up 13 goals and 14 assists across 21 matches.

With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, recent reports suggested that Messi was on the verge of signing a new deal with the French champions.

However, according to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, Messi is still considering his future and could be set to turn down PSG's contract offer.

Romero said: "As of today, Leo Messi's intention is not to extend his contract with PSG and, therefore, not to renew his deal with the Paris-based side."

"The victory in the World Cup in Qatar has changed his way of thinking, as he values other things for the immediate future."

Messi lifted his first World Cup trophy in December after Argentina beat France on penalties following a 3-3 draw in the final.

The forward was awarded the Golden Ball for his performances at the tournament, where he scored seven goals and provided three assists.

The World Cup represented a fulfillment of a career objective for Messi, who is now re-evaluating his future following Argentina's success in Qatar.

Messi reportedly does not put as much value on the sporting aspect, as he considers other factors before deciding his future.

Barcelona are believed to be one of the main contenders to sign the Argentina international, who scored 672 goals and contributed 303 assists during his time with the Catalan giants.

Due to Barcelona's current financial situation, Messi would have to significantly reduce his wage demands to complete a return to Camp Nou.

There is also believed to be interest from Inter Miami and Al-Hilal as well as his boyhood club Newell's Old Boys.
