Ahead of Thursday's World Cup clash between Canada and Morocco, Sports Mole looks at the head-to-head record between the two sides.

Canada and Morocco close their respective Group F campaigns with a World Cup fixture at the Al Thumama Stadium on Thursday.

The two nations find themselves in contrasting positions with regards to their future in the 2022 tournament, Canada having already been eliminated after successive defeats.

However, Morocco are on course to qualify for the last 16 for just the second time in their history after two surprise results against Croatia and Belgium.

On the back of a goalless draw with the 2018 runners-up, the Atlas Lions recorded a deserved 2-0 triumph over Belgium, who occupy second spot in the FIFA World Rankings, on Sunday.

The end result is a showdown in Doha on Thursday with Morocco knowing that a point will be enough to book their place in the second round ahead of one of the two European giants.

The African nation can be confident of achieving their target having never previously lost to Canada in their previous three encounters, all of which were international friendlies.

Those matches in question have been spaced wide apart, the maiden contest taking place in 1984 and their third and most recent meeting coming in 2016.

The first encounter was staged in Rabat, Morocco prevailing by a 3-2 scoreline, but Canada recorded a 1-1 draw when the countries reunited in Montreal 10 years later.

Mohamed Chaouch had given Morocco the lead just before the hour mark, but an 89th-minute equaliser from Rudy Doliscat, his only international goal, earned the North American side a share of the spoils.

Another 22 years has passed by until the teams met again, that fixture taking place in Marrakech, and it turned out to be a routine 90 minutes for Morocco has they posted a 4-0 win with Hakim Ziyech netting two of the goals.
