Cardiff City announce that they have parted ways with manager Sabri Lamouchi, despite their survival in the Championship.

Cardiff City have announced that they have parted company with manager Sabri Lamouchi.

The Frenchman was brought in by the Bluebirds towards the end of January tasked with keeping the club in the Championship.

At the time, Cardiff had recorded just seven wins in 28 league fixtures, leaving them three points above the relegation zone with some of the teams below them possessing matches in hand.

Although Lamouchi took time to make an impact in South Wales, the Frenchman was able to deliver survival in the second tier, winning six of his 18 games in charge.

However, despite remaining in the division by five points, Cardiff lost 10 of their other 12 games under Lamouchi, including the final two fixtures after ensuring that they would not be playing League One football in 2023-24.

That, and Cardiff being reliant on points deductions for two of the three relegated teams, has seemingly counted against the 51-year-old, who was only on a contract until the end of the season.

While Lamouchi has recently hinted that he was keen to stay at the Cardiff City Stadium, owner Vincent Tan has opted to go in a different direction.

A club statement read: "Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that Sabri Lamouchi will depart at the conclusion of his current deal.

"Sabri joined the Bluebirds at the end of January 2023, overseeing 18 fixtures, and winning six matches. Cardiff City would like to thank Sabri for his efforts and contribution in helping us secure our place in the Championship for 2023-24 and wish him all the very best for the future.

"The Board of Directors at Cardiff City FC have already begun the process of appointing a new management team."

Since Neil Warnock left the club in 2019, no-one has lasted more than 62 matches in the dugout, with Lamouchi's predecessor also taking charge of just 18 games.

Welshman Nathan Jones, formerly of Luton Town and Southampton, is the clear bookmakers' favourite to succeed Lamouchi.
