Preview: Charlton Athletic vs. Millwall

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship London derby between Charlton and Millwall at The Valley.

Charlton Athletic could climb into the playoff places with a victory over London rivals Millwall at The Valley this Saturday.

The Addicks currently sit just one point off the top six after 17 games, maintaining their solid start to the season to surpass all pre-season expectations at this stage of the campaign.

There is, of course, still a long way to go, but having been beaten just twice all season - fewer than any other side - things are looking promising for Bob Peeters and his team.

It would be even better for the Belgian boss if he could find a few more goals to turn some of their league-high nine draws into victories, but so far Charlton have found the back of the net fewer times than any other side in the top half and attempted fewer shots than any other team in the league.

With goals hard to come by, they may not welcome the visit of Millwall, whom they have failed to score past in their last five meetings.

The Addicks are still unbeaten at home this season, although with four draws from their last five games at The Valley they are also dropping plenty of points in front of their own fans.

Igor Vetokele is back for the hosts and already on the scoring trail again having netted the winner in the victory over Reading last time out, and he will start up front in what could be an unchanged lineup.

Like Charlton, Millwall made a promising start to the campaign, but they have fallen down the table in recent weeks and now sit just two points clear of the relegation zone.

The Lions have won just one of their last 12 outings and are beginning to leak goals as well, with eight conceded in their last three matches.

Away form is also a major issue for Ian Holloway, who hasn't seen his side win on the road since their first away game of the season - a run that now stretches to seven matches.

They have, however, won their last two visits to The Valley, and another victory this weekend would give them three in a row away to Charlton for the first time since 1926.

They will have to make do without the suspended Andy Wilkinson, however, while Nicky Bailey has suffered a fresh calf injury and will also be absent.
