Who could Chelsea face in the last 16 of the Champions League?

Sports Mole looks at who Chelsea could be drawn against in the last 16 of the Champions League, including Barcelona, Bayern Munich, PSG and Juventus.

Chelsea survived a late scare to join the other three Premier League teams in the last 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday night, holding off a fightback from Lille to secure progress from Group H.

In a very tight section, Frank Lampard's side only missed out on top spot courtesy of Valencia's superior head-to-head record, with last season's semi-finalists Ajax finishing a point behind both in third.

Chelsea's second-place finish leaves them with a potentially trickier last 16 tie, having gone into pot two alongside Atalanta BC, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Lyon, Napoli, Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur.

Some of Europe's biggest teams could await them in the first knockout round, although they cannot be drawn against Valencia or either of the Premier League sides in pot one.

The Blues are subsequently left with five potential opponents in the next round: Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus, RB Leipzig or Paris Saint-Germain.

Chelsea have had some memorable battles with Barcelona in recent years and have only lost one of their last nine meetings inside 90 minutes, most famously beating the Spanish giants en route to lifting the trophy in 2012.

PSG have also played a significant role in Chelsea's recent Champions League history, with the two sides facing off six times since 2014, although the English outfit have only won one of those matches inside normal time.

The Blues have not won any of their last three games against Juventus and have an even record of two wins apiece against Bayern Munich, including that unforgettable victory at the Allianz Arena in the 2012 final.

RB Leipzig appear to be the kindest draw on paper, and they are a team that Chelsea have never come up against before.

Lampard's side will learn their fate when the draw begins at 11am in Nyon on Monday, with the first legs due to take place on February 18 and 19.
