Juan Mata content with Spain role

Juan Mata says he is happy to be a bit-part player for the Spanish national team, despite being the playmaker at Chelsea.

Chelsea playmaker Juan Mata is adamant that he is happy with his current role in the Spanish national team.

Despite being a key man for the Blues, the 25-year-old rarely starts for Spain due to stiff competition from the likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Santi Cazorla, Cesc Fabregas, Xabi Alonso, Sergio Busquets, David Silva and others.

However, Mata insists that the competition for places is good for his country and that he is happy just to be a part of their history-making side.

"I think it is because with 'La Seleccion' there are loads of us who are important players at their clubs, but then only 11 can start and so the competition is very fierce," Mata told FIFA's official website.

"But I have already enjoyed experiencing three major tournaments and my only goal is to keep being involved."

Spain became the first nation to win three consecutive major international titles by capturing the 2010 World Cup in between Euro 2008 and Euro 2012 successes.
