Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew insists that his side can reach the Champions League this year.

Alan Pardew has claimed that his Newcastle United side have a chance of beating Chelsea to the final Champions League qualifying spot.

The Magpies beat Blackburn Rovers 2-0 on Wednesday to move within three points of the Blues in fourth place.

Despite being a surprise package this season, Pardew insists that they do have a chance of finishing above Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool in the League this season.

The former West Ham boss said: "It's a great opportunity now.

"We've got to try to keep it going. Chase Chelsea down. It's all to play for, and we've got 15 cup finals left.

"We've got 39 points. We're safe [from relegation]. We've done one job, and hopefully we can achieve something special."

Newcastle haven't played in a European competiton since Sir Bobby Robson was manager nine years ago.
