Southampton's Ryan Bertrand is determined to make the left-back spot in the England team his own.
The 26-year-old only recently returned to action from a knee injury and has only played two Premier League games this season.
With Luke Shaw and Leighton Baines injured for the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers against Estonia and Lithuania, Bertrand is expected to be given a chance to play for England boss Roy Hodgson.
However, Bertrand is not using injuries to his international teammates as the reason for his opportunity.
"Even with everyone fit, nobody has nailed it down," the Daily Echo quotes Bertrand as saying. "It's not 'oh now people have got a chance because certain people are injured,' I think everyone is in contention at the start of that.
"It's about who really goes in there and grabs it by the scruff of the neck and makes it their own."
England will take on Estonia at Wembley on Friday.
