Former Inter Milan director of sport Sandro Mazzorla believes that West Bromwich Albion boss Roy Hodgson would be an "excellent choice" for the managerial post with England.

Mazzorla was a key figure in Hodgson's appointment as Inter boss in 1995, and he has insisted that the former Fulham boss is the right man to lead his home nation into Euro 2012.

"I believe Hodgson is an excellent choice for England. He is a great coach and someone who knows how to get the best out of players, especially at international level," he told Goal.com.

"He has plenty of international experience having coached national teams during his career... Hodgson is a very clever coach, he is intelligent and I firmly believe he is better suited to managing a big national side like England rather than a club team."

Hodgson is currently in talks with the Football Association.
