Gareth Southgate 'to be named permanent England boss this month'

Southgate 'nears permanent England job'
Gareth Southgate will allegedly be offered the England job on a permanent basis this month.

Gareth Southgate is allegedly on the verge of landing the England job on a permanent basis.

The Three Lions interim boss will be offered a four-year deal before the end of the month, reports The Guardian.

Formal discussions over Southgate's full-time appointment have been tipped to begin next week, with the former England Under-21s boss said to be on course to earn £1.5m a year.

Steve Holland, who was Southgate's assistant during his time in charge of the Under-21s, will reportedly be promoted to the same role with the senior squad.

England Under-21s interim manager Aidy Boothroyd is expected to be offered a permanent deal, although former Derby manager Paul Clement and Phil Neville have been touted as alternative choices.

Southgate has maintained an unbeaten record while in temporary charge of England, defeating Scotland 3-0 in his last competitive game.
