New Everton manager Frank Lampard has spoken about getting the opportunity to work with Duncan Ferguson, who has joined his backroom staff.

New Everton manager Frank Lampard has spoken about Duncan Ferguson staying on with the club.

The former Chelsea boss was revealed as Rafael Benitez's replacement earlier this week, and he actually beat Ferguson to the role, with both men having interviewed for the job.

Despite that, the former caretaker manager will be remaining with the Toffees as part of the backroom staff, as he will be returning to his position as assistant manager.

"I am delighted to work alongside Duncan. I have seen him from afar, well, actually close up a couple of years ago when Everton beat Chelsea! We had a good laugh about that in the last couple of days," Lampard told the press.

"He is a club legend. He's a person the players respect, the club respect, the fans respect, and I can only help myself from tapping into his experience and knowledge.

"I am very open and accommodating and there is no way I would do anything that's not the best for this job. I have really enjoyed having Duncan around these past couple of days."

Lampard will take charge of Everton for the first time on Saturday when they face Brentford in the FA Cup.
