David Moyes says that Royston Drenthe will have to resolve off-the-pitch issues before Everton consider a permanent move.

David Moyes has revealed that he is undecided on whether to offer Royston Drenthe a permanent deal at Everton.

The midfielder, who moved to Goodison Park on a loan switch from Real Madrid in the summer, becomes a free agent at the end of the season.

While the Scottish boss believes that the 24-year-old has impressed on Merseyside, he is concerned with the Dutchman's off-field attitude.

"You are expected to swim straightaway in these situations, but sometimes you feel like you are drowning and in need of a helping hand," the Daily Mail quotes Moyes as saying. "We will give him that.

"At the moment, I don't know what will happen beyond this season, and there are a few things he needs to do a bit better. There are a few things off the pitch, where he has to look after himself and show how much he wants it.

"He is very quick and very sharp, one of the quickest around over a short distance. He is a powerful little boy as well, with a low centre of gravity, and I think he is beginning to get what this club is all about."

Drenthe found the net in the Toffees' 2-0 win over Blackpool after just 49 seconds on Saturday.
