Preview: Getafe vs. Osasuna - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's La Liga clash between Getafe and Osasuna, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Both Getafe and Osasuna will be bidding to return to winning ways when they continue their respective La Liga campaigns with a contest in the Spanish capital on Sunday afternoon.

Getafe, who are 14th in the table, will enter the match off the back of a 2-1 loss at Real Madrid, while ninth-placed Osasuna were beaten 2-1 by Barcelona in their last game before the international break.

Much of the pre-match talk from a Getafe point of view has surrounded a certain Mason Greenwood, with the on-loan Manchester United forward stepping up his training sessions over the international break ahead of potentially being included in the squad against Osasuna.

However, it would still be a surprise to see the England international on Friday considering that he has not played a competitive match since January 2022.

Getafe have picked up four points from their opening four matches of the 2023-24 La Liga campaign, starting off with a goalless draw against Barcelona before losing 3-0 at Girona.

Jose Bordalas's side recorded a 1-0 win over Alaves at the end of August, before losing narrowly at Real Madrid before the international break, with Jude Bellingham coming up with the game's decisive goal in the fifth minute of added time at the end of the 90.

The Deep Blue Ones have finished 15th in each of the last three La Liga seasons, so there is certainly room for improvement this term, and they now have a busy and indeed difficult end to September, taking on Osasuna, Real Sociedad, Athletic Bilbao and Villarreal.

Osasuna, meanwhile, were close to claiming a share of the spoils against the champions Barcelona before the international break, with the two teams level at 1-1 heading into the final exchanges of that contest.

Robert Lewandowski came up with the winner in the 86th minute of the clash, though, with Osasuna suffering their second league defeat of the season, both of which have been in front of their own supporters.

Jagoba Arrasate's side beat Celta Vigo 2-0 in their campaign opener before losing at home to Athletic Bilbao, but they were back to winning ways away to Valencia on August 27 ahead of their defeat to Barcelona.

Los Rojillos have also endured European disappointment early in the season, suffering a 4-3 aggregate defeat to Club Brugge in the Europa Conference League playoffs.

Osasuna have finished 10th, 11th, 10th and seventh in Spain's top flight since their promotion from the Segunda Division in 2019, and they will again have their eyes on a European position this term, with six points from four matches currently leaving them in ninth spot.

Team News

There is believed to be a slight chance that Greenwood could be involved in the squad for this match, with the forward training alongside his teammates during the international break.

Luis Milla and Enes Unal remain on the treatment table, but the home side are otherwise in strong shape heading into the clash with Osasuna.

Head coach Bordalas will have been pleased with his team's performance against Real Madrid, so it is expected to be a similar side for this match, although there could be a change in central midfield, with Mauro Arambarri likely to be introduced in place of Omar Alderete.

Osasuna, meanwhile, will be without the services of Jon Moncayola and Darko Brasanac on Sunday afternoon due to injury problems.

Alejandro Catena is also out, with the defender sent off in the defeat to Barcelona before the international break, which will open the door for David Garcia to return to the side.

Kike Barja is pushing to be introduced into the XI, and it would not be a surprise to see the Spaniard feature in a wide area, but there might be just the two changes from the team that started against Barcelona, with Raul Garcia set to continue at the tip of the attack.

Getafe possible starting lineup:
Soria; Suarez, Duarte, Mitrovic, Alvarez; Alena, Dakonam, Arambarri, Maksimovic; Mayoral, Latasa

Osasuna possible starting lineup:
Fernandez; Areso, D Garcia, Herrando, Cruz; Barja, Ibanez, Munoz, Orzo, Arnaiz; Raul Garcia

We say: Getafe 1-1 Osasuna

Getafe won both league meetings last season, and they are unbeaten against Osasuna in Spain's top flight since early 2014. The visitors are a strong outfit, though, and we can see the points being shared on Sunday, which would not be the worst result in the world for either side.
