Antonio Conte resigns as Juventus manager

Antonio Conte resigns from his position as manager of Juventus with immediate effect.

Antonio Conte has resigned from his position as manager of Juventus with immediate effect.

Conte guided The Old Lady to a third consecutive Serie A title last season but cast doubt over his future in Turin by admitting that he was open to other projects.

However, the issue seemed to have been resolved shortly afterwards when the club confirmed that the 44-year-old would remain their manager for the 2014-15 campaign.

Renewed questions arose following former Italy manager Cesare Prandelli's resignation from the national team post after the Azzurri failed to make it out of the group stages in this summer's World Cup.

Conte was quickly linked to the vacant post, with initial reports suggesting that he was considering juggling the Italy role with his job at Juventus.

His departure seems to clear the way for him to be appointed as the new Azzurri manager, although the former midfielder was coy on his future plans when asked.

"I'm thinking about the present, to the decision taken," he told reporters.

The decision is understood to have been a mutual one between the club and Conte, who spent 13 years as a player with Juventus before taking over the managerial reins in 2011.
