How Leicester City could line up next season

Sports Mole looks at how Leicester City could line up at the start of the 2020-21 campaign.

Leicester City currently occupy third position in the Premier League table, some eight points clear of fifth-placed Manchester United with nine games of the season left.

As it stands, the league has been postponed until the end of April, but there is certainly a desire to finish the 2019-20 campaign, meaning that Leicester are in a strong position to secure a Champions League spot for next season.

It would be fair to say that Brendan Rodgers's side have not been at their best in recent weeks but only Manchester City and Liverpool have won more Premier League matches this season.

The offer of Champions League football will certainly make it easier for Leicester to entice players to the King Power Stadium during this summer's transfer window. With that in mind, Sports Mole looks at how the Foxes could line up next season.

POSS LEI XI 2020-21 SEASON

Kasper Schmeichel has again enjoyed a fine campaign for Leicester - keeping 11 clean sheets in all competitions - and will certainly remain the club's number one goalkeeper next season, while Ricardo Pereira, Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu should all keep their spots at the back.

Ricardo is currently on the sidelines with a knee ligament injury, but the Portuguese could well return for the start of next season, particularly if the start date is pushed back until September.

Ben Chilwell continues to be strongly linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium, though, and it would not be a surprise if either Chelsea or Manchester City signed him this summer.

Burnley's Charlie Taylor has been mentioned as a possible replacement, but there is every chance that James Justin, who played left-back in the 4-0 win over Aston Villa last time out, could be given the chance to replace Chilwell in the starting XI.

Further forward, Harvey Barnes, Youri Tielemans and Wilfred Ndidi have all been excellent for Rodgers's side this season and are almost certain to keep their spots in the starting XI.

James Maddison has been strongly linked with Manchester United, but it appears that the Red Devils will prioritise a move for Aston Villa's Jack Grealish, meaning that the former Norwich City youngster could remain with the Foxes heading into the 2020-21 campaign.

Adam Lallana is currently available on a free transfer as he enters the latter stages of his deal at Liverpool and having played under Rodgers at Anfield, could well make the move to the King Power Stadium.

The 31-year-old is capable of playing off both sides and indeed through the middle, making him an even more attractive proposition for Leicester, who are expected to be active in the market this summer.

Jamie Vardy will turn 34 during the 2020-21 campaign but has shown no signs of slowing down this term. Indeed, he has scored 19 Premier League goals this season and will again be Leicester's first-choice striker even if a new forward were to arrive during this summer's transfer window.
