Emre Can eager to return to midfield

Emre Can believes that he will make an impact in midfield after spending most of his debut season in the Liverpool defence.

Emre Can has admitted that he is looking forward to playing in midfield for Liverpool in his second season at Anfield.

The German spent the majority of his debut campaign in defence, with Brendan Rodgers often favouring a 3-5-2 formation, but he is hoping to make an impact following Steven Gerrard's exit if, as expected, the club add defensive reinforcements this summer.

When asked if he is hoping to fill the void left by Gerrard, Can told The Anfield Wrap: "Of course. I want to play in the midfield. I can take the responsibility.

"[Rodgers] sees me as a midfield player, and I hope next season that I play in midfield. He talks with me every day and tells me what I can do better. I have to work on my game, and he helps me everyday."

Can, who made 32 appearances in all competitions this season, has been selected by Germany for this summer's European Under-21 Championship.
