Jose Enrique hopes that any triumphs this season for Liverpool will be the "start of something special" at Anfield.

Jose Enrique believes that Liverpool are capable of bringing success back to Merseyside in the future, starting with a Carling Cup final next weekend.

The Reds have one more game to play until they travel to Wembley to face Cardiff City for the league cup trophy.

While the Reds have an opportunity to clinch sought-after silverware this season, Enrique believes that the five-time Champions League winners can build towards future glory.

"I'm really happy already because we're in a final and I have never played in one," Enrique told the club's official website. "Of course, if we can play in another one it's even more of a dream.

"This club has big history but it's not just history, we have good players now, [the owners] want to spend money on players and want to buy good players. We have a really good team already but they want to make it better and that's why I came here.

"I hope it's the start of something special. That's why I came here and why many players came here this season. We came because we believe this club is going up and trying to be at the top again. Liverpool have to be there."

Kenny Dalglish's side switch their attention to the FA Cup this weekend as they prepare to take on Brighton & Hove Albion in the fifth round.
