Danny Ings relishing "special" Merseyside derby

Danny Ings says that he is relishing the prospect of playing in his first Merseyside derby this weekend, admitting that it will be the biggest occasion of his career.

Liverpool striker Danny Ings has said that the Merseyside derby will be more special than any game he has played in so far in his career.

Brendan Rodgers's side travel to Goodison Park on Sunday to face city rivals Everton, with the Reds just one point behind the Toffees in the Premier League table.

Although Ings has previously scored the winner for Burnley against bitter rivals Blackburn Rovers in the Championship, the striker, who was called up by England this week, says that this weekend's match will be an even bigger occasion.

"I have been striving to be involved in games like this throughout my career," he told the Liverpool Echo. "It gives me fire in my belly when you have got fans screaming at you and giving you stick. I love playing at grounds like that.

"It is going to be crazy. I have played in derby games before, but I don't think that I have ever played in anything as special as this one, although Burnley vs Blackburn was pretty fierce.

"It is about the day and handling the occasion. Games like these are great occasions and it is exciting for everyone involved. We want to get the win to ensure that we go into the international break on a high."

Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 10 meetings with Everton.
