Liverpool 'lining up Steven Gerrard as Jurgen Klopp successor'

Liverpool line up their former captain Steven Gerrard as a potential successor to Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

Liverpool have reportedly lined up their former captain Steven Gerrard as a potential successor to Jurgen Klopp, with the current manager's future at Anfield far from secure.

Klopp famously led the Merseyside giants to the Premier League title last season, following on from the Champions League crown in 2018-19.

Liverpool have struggled during the 2020-21 campaign, though, and are currently down in sixth position in the table, five points behind fourth-placed West Ham United.

According to The Mirror, there is a growing feeling that Klopp will accept the opportunity to succeed Joachim Low as Germany manager either after the European Championships or the next World Cup.

The report claims that Gerrard's work at Rangers, who are set to win this season's Scottish Premiership, has impressed the Liverpool owners.

The 40-year-old made 710 appearances for the Reds as a player between 1998 and 2015, winning two FA Cups, three League Cups, the UEFA Cup and the Champions League.
