Liverpool midfielder James Milner has said that his side are "improving all the time", adding that the club are "learning" in both attack and defence.

The Reds are almost guaranteed a spot in the last eight of the Champions League as they prepare to welcome Porto to Anfield on Tuesday night, while Jurgen Klopp's team are also in the hunt for a Premier League top-four spot.

Milner told reporters that his side are "exciting" to watch and are moving closer to silverware under the German boss.

"I think we are getting closer. We are improving all the time as a team, we are an exciting team to watch and we are learning to manage games better than we have in the last," the 32-year-old said.

"At this stage of the tournament you need to have that belief you can go on and win it but it is being about consistent, learning from our mistakes and not looking too far ahead.

"I think especially over the last couple of months we have improved that. It is about that game management and realising what is going on at the time. We want to win games and score goals but sometimes you have to hold a midfielder back. As a group we are very aware of it and are improving on it all the time."

Liverpool face Manchester United on Saturday following their second leg with Porto.
