Liverpool defender Ragnar Klavan joins Serie A side Cagliari on a permanent deal.

Liverpool have confirmed that defender Ragnar Klavan has left Anfield for Serie A side Cagliari on a permanent deal.

The Estonia captain made 53 appearances for Jurgen Klopp's side after joining from German club Augsburg for £4.2m in July 2016.

Klavan played 28 games last season, including eight Champions League ties, but fell down the pecking order behind Virgil van Dijk, Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.

"Klavan sealed the formalities of his switch to Cagliari on Friday ahead of their first game of the Serie A season, at Empoli on Sunday," wrote Liverpool on their website.

"Everybody at LFC wishes Ragnar the best of luck for the future."

During his time at Anfield, Klavan also became the first Estonian to score in the Premier League when he netted a winner against Burnley earlier this year.
