Daniel Sturridge is to remain at Liverpool next season because Jurgen Klopp is unwilling to splash out on a replacement, according to a report.

Jurgen Klopp will reportedly deny striker Daniel Sturridge the chance to leave Liverpool this summer as he fears it will cost too much to replace him.

The England international cut a frustrated figure at times last season after being restricted to just 11 starts in all competitions due to form and injury concerns.

Sturridge was expected to depart Anfield once the transfer window opened for business, with West Ham United thought to be the frontrunners to sign him, but The Mirror suggests that he will be remaining in place for at least another year.

Reds boss Klopp is said to have blocked any potential exit because the sum received for his back-up striker would be outweighed by the money it would cost to bring in a replacement of similar quality.

Former Manchester City and Chelsea ace Sturridge insisted in May that he is enjoying his time on Merseyside and will not force through an exit.
