Liverpool are reportedly considering a January move for out-of-favour Real Madrid centre-back Eder Militao as they look to bolster their defensive options.

Liverpool are reportedly considering a January move for Real Madrid defender Eder Militao.

Jurgen Klopp's side have had to cope without their two first-choice centre-backs for a large chunk of the season so far, with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez both suffering serious knee injuries.

Midfield duo Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have filled in at the heart of the defence at times, while Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips have also earned senior call-ups to aid with the injury crisis.

Liverpool have nonetheless managed to climb back to the top of the Premier League table, and Spanish outlet Todofichajes reports that they could be looking to bolster their options in January.

The report claims that out-of-favour Madrid centre-back Militao is one of the players on Liverpool's radar, having only made two La Liga appearances all season for Zinedine Zidane's side.

Zidane is reluctant to lose a defensive option midway through the season, but would sanction an exit if Los Blancos bring in David Alaba from Bayern Munich.

The report also claims that the Premier League champions are close to completing a deal for free agent defender Ezequiel Garay.
