Liverpool are reportedly looking to tie four of their key players down to new long-term contracts, with a view to strengthening their squad this summer

Liverpool are reportedly looking to tie four of their key players down to new long-term contracts, with a view to strengthening their squad this summer.

The Reds are now resigned to losing midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum this summer as he prepares to leave the club on a free transfer when his deal expires, but Jurgen Klopp's side allegedly want to ensure that they are protected from similar incidences happening going forward.

According to The Times, Liverpool are planning to hold discussions with quartet Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho and goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Salah, 28, is the first star that the Reds are keen to tie down to a new deal, amid recent speculation linking the forward with a move to either Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Talks with the Egyptian over a contract extension are believed to be in the pipeline, but the Reds do have time on their side, as Salah's current contract does not expire until June 2023.

The other three players were signed by Liverpool in 2018, with the contracts of Van Dijk and Fabinho expiring in the same year as Salah's in 2023, while Alisson's deal ends the following year.

Any contract negotiations regarding other key players such as captain Jordan Henderson, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are likely to begin at a later date.
