Liverpool, Newcastle United 'agree £25m Georginio Wijnaldum fee'

Liverpool and Newcastle United reportedly agree a transfer fee of £25m for midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

Liverpool have reportedly agreed to pay £25m to Newcastle United for the transfer of wantaway midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

The 25-year-old could make an immediate return to the North-East, however, by rejoining the Magpies on loan for the upcoming campaign, according to the Daily Mail.

The Dutchman is expected to arrive on Merseyside for a medical later today before joining up with his new side on their pre-season tour of the US.

Wijnaldum joined Newcastle last summer in a £14.5m deal from PSV and despite a return of 11 league goals during the campaign, he was unable to help prevent his side from being relegated to the Championship.

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez has so far made six signings this transfer window - including Jesus Gamez, Vurnon Anita and Matt Ritchie - as he looks for an immediate return to the Premier League.
