Club legend Phil Thompson has said that he hopes Liverpool will attempt to sign a like-for-like replacement for Philippe Coutinho.
While the Reds have enjoyed success since parting ways with the Brazilian in January 2018, Jurgen Klopp opted against bringing in a successor to the playmaker.
With the Merseyside giants having sometimes struggled to break down defences in recent weeks, Thompson hopes that consideration is given to adding a new creative player to the squad.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Thompson said: "I still think we need another striker and maybe a little bit more back-up for Andy Robertson. We're not too bad at centre-back, and I would like to think we are well-blessed in midfield.
"I don't think the Philippe Coutinho one would ever come off again, to get him back, but it's that sort of player that we actually need to unlock packed defences."
During his four-and-a-half years at Anfield, Coutinho contributed 54 goals from 201 appearances in all competitions.
