Former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Corrigan believes that the North-West outfit are too reliant on captain Vincent Kompany.
Manuel Pellegrini was forced to bring Martin Demichelis into the fold for yesterday's 2-1 defeat to Chelsea due to Kompany's absence with injury.
"Manchester City did go out and buy a centre-half in the close season but it seems when Vincent Kompany is out of the team the confidence of the back four suffers," Corrigan told talkSPORT.
"In a top squad that shouldn't be happening. You should have more than one general in charge of it all. When Vincent is out of the team they do struggle, especially away from home."
City are currently seventh in the Premier League table, six points adrift of leaders Arsenal.
