Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that he had been left impressed by the performances of his younger players in the International Champions Cup fixture with Liverpool.
Guardiola is still waiting for the return of many of his first-team squad due to their participation at the World Cup, but a youthful side was only denied a draw with Liverpool by a last-gasp penalty from Sadio Mane.
However, Guardiola took nothing but positives from watching the club's second-string push the Merseyside giants all of the way in the fixture in New Jersey.
The Spaniard told the club's official website: "It was incredible, what we did. For 75 minutes, it was incredible with the players we have what we did against that team - the finalists of the Champions League, who have amazing players.
"I'm so proud and happy to be manager of these guys for that reason. Our personality was incredible. In the first half, we had a very young average age.
"For the last 15 minutes, we were so tired. We made some changes and in the last few minutes, Liverpool deserved to score goals."
City are next in action when they face Bayern Munich on Saturday night.
