Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is still hopeful of breaking the records for most points, wins and goals in a Premier League season during his side's final two games.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said that he is still hopeful of setting new Premier League records for the most points, most wins and most goals in a single season.

The champions had the chance to rack up all three records on the day they were officially handed the Premier League trophy yesterday, but they failed to score at home in the league for the first time all season as Huddersfield Town held out for a hard-fought draw.

Guardiola acknowledged that the primary target of winning the title had already been wrapped up, but admitted that it would be "nice" to break records along the way.

"We cannot deny it would be nice [to break records]. But it's nicer when you win the Premier League. We spoke about that. These targets help to be focused. We tried and it's so difficult," he told reporters.

"Remember the game against Southampton - they defended with a lot of people behind and we missed a bit of inspiration. It was so warm out there and the players suffered a little bit, especially in the first half.

"We started playing well and we suffered on a hot day - played more slowly than usual and they defended so good, but so deep. They created two or three chances and it was not easy to attack them. We were stable against Swansea and West Ham after winning the title.

"This week there were a lot of things to do. We lost a bit of focus, but we have another chance on Wednesday and at 9pm the weather will be better."

Man City just need one more win and two more goals from their final two matches against Brighton & Hove Albion and Southampton to set new Premier League marks in three different categories.
