Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has revealed his delight after scoring a hat-trick in the club's Champions League win over Club Brugge.
United's 4-0 second-leg triumph came courtesy of goals from Rooney and Ander Herrera, as Louis van Gaal's charges secured progression into the tournament's group stages with a 7-1 win on aggregate.
"I'm delighted to have got the goals and, more importantly, it was a massive game for the club. We are delighted through to the draw tomorrow," Rooney told BT Sport after the game.
"To be honest, if I didn't have a strong character that [the criticism] might have affected me. I wasn't worried. It is early days and when the chances came I took them."
United return to Premier League action against Swansea City on Sunday.
