Matteo Darmian, Chris Smalling out of Bournemouth clash

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal says that both Matteo Darmian and Chris Smalling will miss the club's away match at Bournemouth on Saturday night.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that he will be without both Matteo Darmian and Chris Smalling for the trip to Bournemouth.

In recent weeks, United have found themselves stretched in defensive areas due to injuries to a number of players, and Van Gaal has confirmed that two more of his backline are to spend time in the treatment room.

Both injuries occurred during the 3-2 defeat to Wolfsburg in the Champions League on Tuesday, with Darmian sustaining a hamstring problem in the first half before Smalling hobbled through the closing stages with a groin issue.

Van Gaal has said that he expects both players to return before the start of the Christmas period.
