Manchester United reportedly agree a deal with Sporting Lisbon for Ruben Amorim, who is set to officially move to Old Trafford during the November international break.

Manchester United have reportedly agreed a deal with Sporting Lisbon for Ruben Amorim, with the highly-rated Portuguese set to become the English club's new head coach.

The Red Devils sacked Erik ten Hag on Monday, less than 24 hours after the 2-1 defeat at West Ham United, and Ruud van Nistelrooy was immediately placed in temporary charge of the senior side.

Van Nistelrooy guided the team to a 5-2 success over Leicester City in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night, with Man United progressing to the quarter-finals of the competition, where they will take on Tottenham Hotspur.

However, Amorim has emerged as Man United's number one choice to become their next permanent boss, and according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, an agreement has now been reached.

Romano claims that the 39-year-old will pen a contract until June 2027, with Sporting receiving his €10m (£8.3m) release clause, in addition to a further €1m (£840,000) for his staff and the 30-day notice period.

Man United 'agree Amorim deal with Sporting'

Amorim will not be starting immediately, though, with the manager set to remain with Sporting until the November international break, with his first game for Man United expected to be their clash with Ipswich Town on November 24.

Sporting had reportedly been determined to keep hold of Amorim for the upcoming Champions League game with Manchester City, in addition to the league fixture with Braga ahead of the international break.

Amorim is therefore set to take charge of another three games for the Green and Whites, while Van Nistelrooy will remain as interim head coach for Man United's next three matches in all competitions.

The Red Devils will take on Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday, before tackling PAOK in the Europa League next Thursday ahead of a home fixture with Leicester in England's top flight ahead of the break.

Which coaches will follow Amorim to Man United? Will Van Nistelrooy stay?

Van Nistelrooy has expressed a desire to stay with Man United "in any capacity" when a new manager is confirmed, but it remains to be seen whether there is a place for him at Old Trafford moving forward.

"I came here as an assistant, to help the club, and now in this role, I'm helping as long as I'm needed. In the future, in any capacity, I am here to help the club further, to build towards the future," Van Nistelrooy told Sky Sports News on Wednesday night.

"There are so many people around me who want the best for the club and that will never change. I think it's important to focus on Sunday, and the league game against Chelsea. What the future holds, let's wait on that."

Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido and Jorge Vital are set to be the Sporting coaches to follow Amorim to Old Trafford, while sports scientists Paulo Barreira and Emanuel Ferro are also likely to make the move to Manchester.
