Bruno Fernandes hails influence of "idol" Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes pays tribute to Portugal teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, describing the former Red Devil as an "idol".

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has paid tribute to Portugal teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, describing the former Red Devil as an "idol" of his.

Fernandes has hit the ground running under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since his January arrival at Old Trafford and was this week named the Premier League player of the month for February.

The former Sporting Lisbon playmaker has spoken to Cronache Di Spogliatoio, describing his relationship with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

"He [Ronaldo] welcomed me very well to the Portugal national team," Fernandes said.

"We look at him as an idol, he has always been an idol for me. I followed his example, he is one of my favourites.

"When I was called up by Portugal, he came to me saying, 'You are doing a good job at Sporting, I like it'. Words like these make the difference."

The arrival of the 25-year-old has lifted Old Trafford with the midfielder playing every minute of Manchester United's three Premier League matches last month, registering two assists as well as scoring from the penalty spot in the Red Devils' 2-0 home victory against Watford.
