Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has admitted that he is 'amused' by the praise that he received for his performances last season.
The 31-year-old was shortlisted for the PFA Player of the Year award as United regained the Premier League title from neighbours Manchester City.
Despite earning rave reviews for his consistent form, the England international believes that he has been at the same level for a number of years.
"It slightly amuses me when I see or hear people saying different things, as if I have suddenly appeared from nowhere," Carrick is quoted as saying by Goal.com.
"I have maybe played a little bit better than I have done in the past, but I have been happy with my form for a long time really.
"A couple of people say something and it snowballs from there. Obviously you have to be doing things right on the pitch, but it is slightly strange how it has come about this season."
Carrick was voted Player of the Year by his Manchester United teammates at the club's annual awards.
